Barley news Australia: Yarra feed barley seed available for 06/07 planting

ABB argued on 27th of April 2006 that as they were heading optimistically towards the season break, seed is still available for planting in 2006.

This is the first year that seed for Yarra feed barley has been available for commercial planting. With its unique combination of leaf rust resistance and resistance to cereal cyst nematode, Yarra is well suited to the Yorke and Lower Eyre Peninsula regions of SA.

A moderately late maturing, high yielding, semi-dwarf feed barley, Yarra is best adapted to areas with 375mm-450mm annual rainfall. It offers excellent grain plumpness and head retention.

Seed for the Capstan and Maritime feed barley varieties is also still available to growers looking for an alternative variety to sow.

Yarra, Capstan and Maritime are all protected under Plant Breeders’ Rights (PBR), meaning ‘over the fence’ trading of seed is not permitted and End Point Royalties (EPR) will apply to grain produced.
